This past Saturday, volunteers from Building Impact buildings in Waltham, Needham and Boston came out with family and friends to sort clothing and home goods with us at the Lowell Wish Project.  The Lowell Wish Project accepts all kinds of donations, from beds, furniture, and kitchenware to clothing and baby items and channels them to families in Lowell, Lawrence, Andover, Concord and throughout the Merrimack Valley. Lowell Wish serves seniors, young families, and others served by the 60 local social service agencies they work with.  Our group went through piles of clothing and home goods, checking them for quality and sorting them by size and type.

When we arrived at 9am, our group was cheerful and ready to go!  The warehouse was buzzing, as Laura, the Volunteer Coordinator, was out trying to locate bedding, winter clothing and other necessities for a local family who just found out they are going to be matched with Haitian children they are adopting much earlier than expected due to the earthquake.  Thus, all the other staff were extra busy, helping fill in and matching clients with the items they needed.

Our group had the clothing sorting process down to a science by the end, and we even improved our basketball skills by tossing items into the appropriate bins!  The Lowell Wish Project staff was thankful for all our hard work, and by the end of our shift, the clothing bins were full of sorted and inspected items for clients to choose from.
